The Catholic Church will soon begin the process of choosing its new leader following the death of Pope Francis. Faith leaders in Birmingham plan to honor the papal conclave.

The event will begin with a Mass, and then this afternoon, the more than 100 voting cardinals will cast their ballots for the next pope. If a cardinal receives more than two-thirds of the vote, he will be elected as the new Pope. Faith leaders say the conclave is a way for many to connect with their faith.

“Nobody’s going into a conclave expecting a divine light to illuminate their mind or anything, but it’s to use good human judgment, judgement surrounded by prayer and the desire to do what is right for the church and out of that we expect to get a good pope,” said Colin Donovan, Vice President of Theology with the Eternal World Television Network.
