Faith Leader Vigil Held at Courthouse Tuesday – Boulder Jewish News

On Tuesday, June 3rd, clergy and lay leaders from many denominations and faith groups gathered in the plaza in front of the Courthouse, on the spot of the firebomb attack on Sunday, to offer prayers and comfort to the injured, the witnesses and the community.
“Our hearts are broken at the news of the attack that took place on Sunday afternoon at the Pearl Street Mall in front of the courthouse. We pray not only for the victims of the attack, first responders, and all those affected, but for all of us, as the Pearl Street Mall has always been a place of community coming together. Pastor Pam, Bishop Meghan, and several area clergy and laity (33!) gathered on Tuesday to pray at the site for the victims, for the perpetrator, and for our world that seems to be divided by hate and violence more than united in love and peace. Here are also some words of comfort from Bishop Meghan Johnston Alebouni sent to the Boulder congregations.
“As the news from Sunday’s violent attack on Pearl Street unfolds, please know that my prayers and the prayers of our staff and synod are with you, your congregations, and this community in which you serve. I have reached out to Pastor Pam, since Trinity is so near to where this attack occurred, and I want you all to hear and know that our office is ready and willing to support you all in whatever ways might be needed as the Boulder community responds and reacts
I recognize that this event is so heartbreaking in part because it is connected to a place and an issue that many of us (including me) hold close to our hearts—and in fact, our Rocky Mountain Synod just approved a memorial to Churchwide calling for stronger advocacy for justice in Palestine and Israel and an end to the occupation and violence in Gaza (including, also, the return of Israeli hostages, which was the plea of this group’s peaceful walk and vigil.) I am deeply grieved that “Free Palestine” is used as justification for this kind of violence—when our Palestinian Christian siblings, and so many of their non-Christian neighbors, remain committed to nonviolent approaches to justice; and when so many who live there know that violence begets violence, and attacks like this will not bring back the thousands of precious lives already lost.

The City of Boulder, in partnership with the Boulder Chamber, will light the Boulder Star tonight, Monday, June 2, through Sunday, June 8, in solidarity with our community.
