Nashville faith leaders working towards solutions for immigrant community after ICE raids – WSMV

Uncategorized Article

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A group of religious leaders from across Middle Tennessee marched through downtown Nashville on Thursday showing solidarity for people impacted by the recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests.
The faith leaders came together to send a simple message – that everyone belongs here.
The group walked around the city sharing their stories and talking about what they can do to help the immigrant community.
The faith leaders said ICE arrests over the past month have spread fear and divided families. They’re hoping religion can serve as a great way to connect people of many different backgrounds.
“We’re all neighbors. We all belong here,” Islamic Center of Nashville community partnerships director Rashed Fakhruddin said. “We are going to make sure that no matter who you are, what’s your background, what language you speak, your ethnicity, we all belong here. This walk is just part of that.”
Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.
Metro Trustee Erica S. Gilmore has organized the walk the past couple of years and wanted this year’s event to give the community access to resources.
She said Metro wants to make sure people are fully supported no matter what faith or culture they come from.
“Churches, synagogues, mosques have always been those places we can step out and get help when government hasn’t been able to do that or sometimes private corporations haven’t been able to do that,” Gilmore said. “They can fill in those gaps. This is the opportunity to do that and for people to see those resources that are available.”
