MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon residents gathered at Coleman Hill Park on Thursday for the city’s annual National Day of Prayer event, continuing a decades-long tradition of coming together in faith.
The National Day of Prayer service has been a fixture in Macon for years. Natalie Hunt, a member of the Prayer Collective of Hope for the Heart of Georgia, participated in the event and prayed for the arts, entertainment and media.
“I feel like that is an area—an influence—that has significant impact on our culture and community,” she said. “And it needs to be careful, but it is a good way for the truth to come forth. It’s a great way to communicate with one another.”
Hunt believes hosting the event can bring people to Macon to be made whole and united with God.
“That we come together; different demographics, different denominations, different backgrounds, and that we come together for the sake of our city,” Hunt said. “Because the Bible tells us that those that pray for the welfare of their city—that’s where we find our welfare. So it would do us good as a people that live here to pray for its welfare.”
Pastor Brenda Howard delivered a sermon at the event, preaching about pouring out before God.
“We all have to understand that we serve a true and living God,” Howard said. “And we all have the opportunity to come before him and speak to him, and he will speak back to us.”
Howard said the event reflects God’s desire to unite Macon.
“It’s so important that we come together in love, in community—that we can all come together as one,” she said. “According to John 17, be one just as God, as Jesus and God are one.”
The next National Day of Prayer event in Macon is scheduled for May 7, 2026, at Coleman Hill Park.
