Democratic military veterans in Congress endorse Sullivan in 1st District – WMUR
Military veteran Democrats serving in Congress are getting involved in the 1st District primary in New Hampshire, endorsing fellow Iraq War veteran Maura Sullivan.
Sullivan is staking out her turf even as she has the field of declared major candidates to herself.
“At a time when the Democratic Party is just five seats away from regaining control of the House of Representatives, they’re looking for who can win, and I’m the only candidate in this race that can put together the broad coalition of veterans, businesspeople, putting country over party, who can win in this tough district,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan is rolling out endorsements from Democratic military veterans who are serving in Congress. U.S. Rep. Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania said Iraq and Afghanistan veterans bring a different perspective to Washington.

“As Congress is hunkered down with such gridlock, I think veterans – and there is a group of us – are able to break through that,” Deluzio said. “I think those relationships are important. And Maura, as someone who I’ve gotten to know, I really think can contribute a lot to Congress.”
U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Massachusetts, who campaigned for Sullivan in 2018 when she came in second to U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas in the Democratic primary, said Sullivan has remained involved at the grassroots level since that loss.
“She worked hard for Chris Pappas. She’s worked hard for the Democratic Party in New Hampshire,” Moulton said. “She’s built a family. She’s built a career, and yet she’s always been there when Democrats needed her, and she’s there for Democrats today. She’s going to be a fighter in New Hampshire, and she’s going to be a fighter in Washington at a time when we really need fighters for the Democratic Party.”
The campaign theme of “Who is a fighter?” was big for Republicans in the district in 2022, and it could be even bigger for Democrats in 2026.
“These members of Congress have won in tough districts,” Sullivan said. “They’ve taken on tough fights. They know what it takes to win, and they see that in me.”
