COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A legal battle in federal court against Hilliard City Schools came to a close Wednesday with a judge dismissing the remaining allegations.
A group of parents in 2023 sued the school district, alleging that district staff "indoctrinated" students and solicited conversations about sexual orientation and gender identity. Among the issues were badges with a QR code that linked to a website offering sexually explicit information that some parents said was inappropriate for children.

A later version of the lawsuit alleged that staff "diagnosed" a student with "gender dysphoria" and pushed a female student who was struggling with her gender to adopt a male identity. The student's mother accused the school of "brainwashing" her child to believe that she was transgender.
Over a year later, a federal judge threw out most claims against the district with he exception of parents' allegations of due process violation and infliction of emotional distress. The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals denied the parents' appeal.
On Wednesday, the federal judge dismissed the due process violation accusations based on the statute of limitations and ruled that the question of emotional distress should be tried in state court.
