Two Spirit LGBTQIA + Flag Ceremony at Arcata City Hall and Pride 2025 Preview – Redwood News

TO KICK OFF PRIDE MONTH, 
THE CITY OF ARCATA AND THE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, QUEER HUMBOLDT,  RAISED THE 2 SPIRIT LGBTQIA + FLAG AT THE ARCATA CITY HALL.
ARCATA CITY COUNCIL MEMBER MEREDITH MATHEWS BEGAN THE CEREMONY WITH A SPEECH CELEBRATING THE QUEER COMMUNITY IN ARCATA. 
MATHEWS AND ARCATA MAYOR ALEX STILLMAN RAISED THE FLAG TOGETHER.
THE CITY OF ARCATA IS ONE OF THE FIRST CITIES IN THE NATION TO FLY THE FLAG HONORING BOTH THE 2 SPIRIT AND LGBTQIA  PLUS COMMUNITY. 
REDWOOD NEWS SPOKE WITH A REPRESENTATIVE FROM QUEER HUMBOLDT TO FIND OUT WHAT EVENTS THEY HAVE IN STORE…..AND WHAT THIS FLAG REPRESENTS.
“So our flag for this year is our two spirit as we take shape Class Pride flag, It’s our progress inclusive flag. So it includes two spirit it includes intersex, the yellow and purple are intersex it also include, trans and non-binary and people of color that are in our community,” said Julie the Arts and Resilience Coordinator at Queer Humboldt.  
“So we have a lot of pride events going on here in Humboldt County and Del Norte as well. So this weekend, on June 7th is Redwood Pride. And every time there’s going to be a parade at the town and then festival, all that’s going to be in the Jefferson Center in Eureka. And then also on the seventh is the Hoopa Valley extravaganza Pride, which will also be the same day. The following two weekends from then we’re going to be a part of the Juneteenth celebration, which Queer Humboldt will be part of, as well as the Del Norte Pride. So there will also be two celebrations of that day as well. And then the last weekend of June 28th is Humboldt Pride and Red Way and then Ferndale Pride on the 29th,” said Julie. 
“I think it’s just really important, and especially now with everything going on politically, that we and the queer and trans community are here for each other. So that’s kind of the be a little bit different with everything going on, but still celebrating and still uplifting each others voices and still making sure that we are here, we are queer, we’re not going anywhere,” said Julie.
