Faith leaders protest Medicaid cuts at Stauber’s office – WDIO.com

Uncategorized Article

Rep. Pete Stauber’s office in Hermantown has seen many protests since Trump took office in January.
On Thursday, a team of faith leaders from all over the 8th Congressional District, from Brainerd to Biwabik, made the trip and voiced their opposition to the Medicaid, SNAP, and other safety net program cuts, which Stauber votes for in Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
Pastor Corinne Freedman Ellis from Duluth Peace United Church of Christ tells WDIO, “We are here as people who believe in loving our neighbor. For caring for those most marginalized. In Matthew 25, we read that we are supposed to tend the sick, feed the hungry, and clothe the naked.”
“There is nothing in our faith tradition that support what Stauber has voted for.”
A member of Stauber’s team did meet with the clergy before the protest. Stauber’s office tells us that the representative was proud to support the reconciliation bill: “It delivers on the mandate that the American people gave the President and Congress in November. It delivers real tax relief, unleashes American mineral and energy dominance, secures our borders, and restores integrity to critical programs like SNAP and Medicaid by eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse.”
